Trickle of wins for residential battery storage in Vic and NSW

Victorian home battery rebate expansion

Renew Economy reports that Victoria has extended the solar rebate scheme introduced by the Labor government for only 24 postcodes initially to encompass 250 postcodes.

The battery rebate has been poorly adopted, when compared to the uptake of the solar PV system rebate offered by the state.

The rebate offers a discount of $4,838 towards a home solar battery storage system, and is expected to be offered to 1,000 households across the state.

New South Wales to offer select areas no-interest loans for home batteries

Renew Economy reported that the NSW Coalition government will launch a pilot program offering interest-free loans for home solar storage, lasting up to 12 months. The “Empowering Homes Solar Battery Loan” program offers residents of the Hunter-region zero-interest loans with the following conditions:

  • Up to $14,000 towards a new rooftop solar and battery system
  • Up to $9,000 towards new battery storage with an existing rooftop solar system
  • Available to households with a combined annual income of >$180k.

The scheme will be offered to select postcodes in the NSW Hunter region, listed here.
